What were those old sayings?
‘Children should be seen but not heard’ and Children should not speak unless spoken to’

It is our intention that your child enjoys the time they spend with us, which will involve running around and playing noisy games as well as quiet times to sit and discuss or read. We hope to encourage your child to ask questions, request toys to play with or books to read and to participate in group activities as much as possible.

Therefore we feel that the above saying should be changed to:
‘Children at Sam’s will be seen, heard and encouraged to talk and discuss at all times’!

It is our belief that Children should never be punished by smacking, slapping, shaking or practices that humiliate or frighten them. We strongly feel that there are no circumstances in which such a punishment can be justified. Staff will be encouraged to use positive techniques of guidance to prevent disagreements that children cannot handle and for the elimination of potential problems. If a child’s behaviour gives frequent cause for concern to staff (biting, smacking, hitting, screaming, bullying etc) this will be discussed with parents/guardians, to enable us to reach the best solution to try and prevent that individual child from continuing with this behaviour. Further details can be found in our Behaviour Policy – ask a member of staff if you wish to see this.
